The Anointed One

Several of my posts in the past have referred to Jesus Christ
as "The Messiah".

You can find some of them

by clicking HERE

or HERE,

or HERE!

In the Book of Daniel
 "The Anointed One"
refers forward to the coming of  "The Messiah".

The Almighty, Anointed One, My Advocate
Daniel 9:25-26
first mentions "The Anointed One,
but then Daniel 10:5-6 describes Daniel's personal encounter with Him!

He says, "I looked up and there before me was a Man dressed in linen,
with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around His waist.
His body was like topaz,
His face like lightning,
His eyes like flaming torches,
His arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze,
and His voice like the sound of a multitude..."
This sounds a lot like what the Apostle John saw
when he was exiled on the Isle of Patmos and recorded in Revelation 1:
"...Among the lampstands was Someone like a Son of Man,
dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet
and with a golden sash around His chest.
The hair on His head was white like wool,
as white as snow,
and His eyes were like blazing fire.
His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace,
and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters...
His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance..."

Ezekiel also describes a similar vision.

No wonder they all fell on their faces before Him!

And someday so shall we!

Revelation 1:7 says "Every eye will see Him", and
Philippians 2:10 says "...At the Name of Jesus every knee should bow..."

JESUS!
The Anointed One!

The Righteous One

In former posts I think I have mentioned that my husband
likes to start our day by reading a chapter out of the Book of Proverbs.
He reads the chapter which corresponds to the day of the month.
A few days ago this Name for God jumped out at me as he was reading:

"The Righteous One takes note of the house of the wicked
and brings the wicked to ruin."
Proverbs 21:12

So, I went to one of my favorite search engines for Bible verses,
and looked up other mentions of "The Righteous One".
I found several:

"From the ends of the earth we hear singing;
Glory to the Righteous One..."
Isaiah 24:16

"The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know His will
and to see the Righteous One
and to hear words from His mouth."
Acts 22:14

But I think this one is my favorite:
"My dear children,
I write this to you so that you will not sin,
But if anybody does sin,
we have an Advocate with the Father ---
Jesus Christ, the Righteous One."

That's it for today!
Hope you stop by again soon!

The Ancient of Days

Today I worked on a Daniel Bible Study by Beth Moore.
She spent quite a bit of time talking about God the Father
in His role as the "Ancient of Days".

I thought I had already done a post on this,
but found I had only mentioned this Name in a post I did several years ago.
You can find that blog post by clicking HERE!

Daniel had a vision described in Daniel 7.
In his vision, he says,
"As I looked,
thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took His seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of His head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before Him.
Thousands upon thousands attended Him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.
The court was seated,
and the books were opened."

Daniel goes on to talk about end times
when the "little horn" wages war against the saints of God
"until the Ancient of Days came
and pronounced judgment in favor
of the holy people of the Most High,
and the time came when they possessed the kingdom."

I find it so interesting that the description of Jesus
from Revelation 1 seems to match this same description.
I guess it's because of what it says in Hebrews 1:3,
"The Son is the radiance of God's glory
and the exact representation of His being,
sustaining all things by His powerful Word.
After He had provided purification for sins,
He sat down at the right hand
of the Majesty in heaven."

This is the description John gave of Jesus from Revelation 1:
"I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me.
And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
and among the lampstands was someone like a Son of Man,
dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet
and with a golden sash around His chest.
The hair on His head was white like wool, as white as snow,
and His eyes were like blazing fire.
His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace,
and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters.
In His right hand He held seven stars,
and coming out of His mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword.
His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance."

My 11 year old grandson painted this "Jesus" rock a few weeks ago.  Since he painted that rock, my sister's health has deteriorated.  When I was doing this post I couldn't help but think, she may be seeing Jesus soon in all of His glory, just as John described.

Both John and Daniel fell down to worship God when He showed Himself to them.  I can only imagine what they felt.  When I feel like weeping and grieving for my sis, I need to remind myself of this, and how wonderful it will be for my sis to be in the Presence of God!

A couple of years ago I did a post on my sis and her husband and their great love of the game of Scrabble.  You can find that post by clicking HERE!

The "Baptizer"

I think it is so cool that my husband is supplying me with these new titles

John the Baptist said these words referring to Jesus:
"...The real action comes next;
The Star in this drama,
...will change your life.
I'm baptizing you here in the river,
turning your old life in for a kingdom life.
His baptism - a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit -
will change you from the inside out."
Mark 1:8 The Message

John continued...
"I only baptize using water.
A Person you don't recognize has taken His stand in your midst.
He comes after me,
but He is not in second place to me.
I'm not even worthy to hold His coat for Him..."

Then John clinched his witness with this statement:
"I watched the Spirit,
like a dove flying down out of the sky,
making Himself at home in Him.
I repeat, I know nothing about Him except this:
The One Who authorized me to baptize with water told me,
'The One on whom you see the Spirit come down and stay,
this One will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'
That's exactly what I saw happen,
and I'm telling you,
there's no question about it:
This is the Son of God."
John 1:26-34 The Message

As the apostles met and ate meals together with Jesus,
before He said good-bye He reminded them that they
"must wait for what the Father promised;
the promise you heard from Me.
John baptized in water;
you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit..."

And then it happened!
"...Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force --
no one could tell where it came from.
It filled the whole building.
Then, like a wildfire,
the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks..."

The prophet Joel prophesied this:
"I will pour out my Spirit
on every kind of people;
Your sons will prophesy,
also your daughters.
Your old men will dream,
your young men will see visions.
I'll even pour out my Spirit on the servants,
men and women both..."

Peter found that baptism by God's Spirit was not limited to one group of people.
He said, "Before I'd spoken half a dozen sentences,
the Holy Spirit fell on them
just as He did on us the first time.
I remembered Jesus' words:
'John baptized with water;
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
So I ask you;
If God gave the same exact gift to them as to us
when we believed in the Master Jesus Christ,
how could I object to God?"

Yes, that same Spirit of Jesus is available to me and you today!
Jesus said:
"...Ask and you'll get;
Seek and you'll find;
Knock and the door will open...
Don't you think the Father who conceived you in love
will give the Holy Spirit when you ask Him?"

The "Soul Searcher"

My husband is responsible for finding this interesting Name for God.

"The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful,
a puzzle that no one can figure out.
But I, GOD, search the heart
and examine the mind.
I get to the heart of the human.
I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are,
not as they pretend to be."
Jeremiah 17:9-10  The Message
"O LORD, You have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me.
You place Your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand.
I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from Your presence!
...Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends You,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
Psalm 139:1-7, 23-24   NLT

See you again next time!

Trustworthy

My husband called my attention to this Name for God
as we were on our knees crying out to God
and praying for a family member that is ill...

"Don't let this throw you.
You TRUST God, don't you?
TRUST ME."
John 14:1-4 The Message

"Then He (Jesus) said to His disciples,
'Why can't you TRUST ME?'
They were in absolute awe,
staggered and stammering,
'Who is this anyway?
He calls out to the winds and sea,
and they do what He tells them!'"
Luke 8:25 The Message

"Help us, O GOD;
...Because we TRUST in YOU
and Who You Are..."

The Listener

Sometimes I just need to know that God hears me!

"My purpose in writing is simply this:
that you who believe in God's Son
will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life,
the reality and not the illusion,
And how bold and free we then become in His presence,
freely asking according to His will,
sure that He's listening.
And if we're confident that He's listening,
we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours."
1 John 5:13-15  The Message

"He (God) listens the split second I call to Him"
Psalm 4:3  The Message

"I yell out to my God,
I yell with all my might,
I yell at the top of my lungs.
He listens."
Psalm 77:1  The Message

"I call to GOD,
I cry to God to help me.
From His palace He hears my call;
My cry brings me right into His presence---
a private audience!"
Psalm 18:6  The Message

Our "Energizer"

"Energize the limp hands,
Strengthen the rubbery knees.
Tell fearful souls,
Courage! Take heart!
GOD is here, right here...
He's on His way!
He'll save you!"
Isaiah 35:3-4 The Message

"Why would you ever complain...
'GOD has lost track of me.
He doesn't care what happens to me?'
...GOD doesn't come and go.
GOD LASTS.
He's Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn't get tired out,
Doesn't pause to catch His breath.
And He knows everything, inside and out.
He ENERGIZES those who get tired...

...But those who wait upon GOD get fresh strength.

They spread their wings and soar like eagles...
Isaiah 40:27-31 The Message

I hope to have a post soon on Joy4Today
entitled "The Empty Nest",

It seems like this year, on entering my 7th decade of life,
I am beginning to experience what many mothers have felt
DECADES EARLIER in life!  LOL!

Our Forerunner

"We have this HOPE as an anchor for the soul,
firm and secure.
It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,
where OUR FORERUNNER, JESUS,
has entered on our behalf..."
Hebrews 6:19-20

That's a "Convoy of Hope" tee shirt in the background,
and the featured verse comes from John 10:10.

Jesus, our FORERUNNER, is the source of our hope,
our joy, our peace,
and the recipe for enjoying life to the full!

"I pray that God,
the Source of all HOPE,
will infuse your lives
with an abundance of joy and peace
in the midst of your faith
so that your HOPE will overflow
through the power of the Holy Spirit."

"GOD of the Angel Armies"

Hannah had a "rival wife" who taunted her,
treated her cruelly,
and never let her forget that GOD had not given her children.
She was so upset by this that she could not eat!
She went to the Sanctuary and cried inconsolably.
Then she made this vow:

"Oh, GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies,
If You'll take a good, hard look at my pain,
If You'll quit neglecting me
and go into action for me
By giving me a son,
I'll give him completely, unreservedly to You.
I'll set him apart for a life of holy discipline."
1 Samuel 1:11 The Message

YHWH, Our Intimate and Uncomparable GOD,
 heard Hannah's prayer.
Before a year was up, she gave birth to a son.
She named him Samuel, explaining,
"I asked GOD for him."

Hannah's joyful response to GOD's answer to her prayer
held phrases like:
"I'm walking on air"
"No Rock Mountain like our God"
"GOD knows what's going on"
"GOD brings dignity and respect"
"He protectively cares for His faithful friends"

Isn't it comforting to know that
GOD of the Angel Armies
cares about you!
